Judoka Vugar Shirinli of Azerbaijan won the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2017. He won the African Open in 2016 in Tunis. He won his first World Cup in 2011 in Baku and won the EYOD, now EYOF in Belgrade in 2007. He fought a legendary match against Tadahiro Nomura as youngest and oldest participant. He won the PanAm Open in Lima and Buenos Aires in 2016. He captured a bronze medal at the European Open in Oberwart in 2018. He took a bronze medal in 2018 in Saarbrücken. At the Grand Prix in Tashkent Vugar Shirinli of Azerbaijan finally struck U60kg gold. For Azerbaijan’s five-man team in Tashkent he not only rediscovered his medal winning touch but made a breakthrough on the Grand Prix stage for the first time. Spain was the most successful country at the first day of the Pan American Open in Buenos Aires. The strong team of just 6 Spanish in action won four medals. Sugoi Uriarte seemed to secure his participation at the Olympic Games in Rio with gold U66kg. Jaione Equisoain also won gold for her nation defeating Yadinys Amaris of Colombia in the category U57kg. Russian women warmup at Panam Open in Lima

World number six U52kg Natalia Kuziutina made her comeback at the Pan American Open in Lima with a victory. The Russian female star and Olympic hope celebrated her return with a traditional warmup in South America where this weekend’s first PanAm Open is held in Peru. Last year she won silver in Santiago and gold in Montevideo. Next week the PanAm Open is in Buenos Aires (ARG) and in two week’s time in Santiago (CHI). Kuziutina defeated Laura Gomez of Spain.
