New Mongolian kid on the block Lkhagvatogoo Enkhriilen was a shock winner in Ulaanbaatar as she bested former Asian Championships winner Ishikawa Megumi (JPN) in the U57kg final. Lkhagvatogoo is the fourth youngest ever winner of an IJF Tour. Megumi Tsugane (JPN), Hifumi Abe (JPN) and Da Sol Park (KOR) were just a few days younger than the Mongolian starlet. Read more

The Kodokan Cup in Japan might be seen as a minor event, but the quality is finger-licking. Last weekend the Kodokan Cup was traditionally held in Chiba, where in 1995 the World Championships where held. Among the medallists former World Champions in Yuka Nishida and Daiki Kamikawa, Asian Champions such as Hirofumi Yamamoto, Anzu Yamamoto, Hiromi Endo as well as many World Junior Champions like the fore mentioned Nishida, Yamamoto, Yamamoto and Endo but also Sarah Asahina, Nami Inamori, Sho Tateyama, Funa Tonaki and Manami Inoue. Sally Conway shines in Glasgow at European Open

Home fighter Sally Conway led the way for the home crowd taking gold in the -70kg category at the European Open in Glasgow. Conway had reached the final in typically strong fashion holding Japan’s Haruka Yasumatsu after earlier taking a narrow win on shidos over Alena Eiglova of Czech Republic. The final saw her up against Jenifer Pitzanti and she comfortably beat her Italian opponent, throwing for waza-ari and picking up yuko on the ground to seal the win. 19 year-old British athlete Ebony Drysdale-Daley took fifth place as she picked up hansoku-make against Japanese athlete Haruka Yasumatsu in the bronze medal contest.
