Guusje Steenhuis won silver at the World Championships in Baku in 2018. She took gold at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2017 and she took gold at the Grand Prix The Hague in 2017. She won the GS of AbuDhabi in 2016 and Baku in 2015 and 2016 and took gold at the Grand Slam in Tyumen and silver in Tokyo 2015. Steenhuis won European Games bronze in 2015, silver in 2016 and 2017. Steenhuis won bronze at the Grand Slam in Paris and silver in Tokyo in 2017. She took bronze at the IJF Masters 2017.

You just cannot believe it, Guusje Steenhuis cannot believe it but Guusje Steenhuis lost her third European Championships final away. Slovenian Klara Apotekar was the one who snatched this European Games title. Apotekar was the winner of a pool with Natalie Powell and Bernadette Graf and both were more favourite on paper, but Apotekar steadily grew to this level for a long period and the differences are small. Lots of surprises U90kg at day three in Minsk

What an amazing battle field in the category U90kg where World Champion Nikoloz Sherazadishvili lost too early against Swiss Ciril Grossklaus. It was just one of those surprises. 2017 European Champion Aleksandar Kukolj lost to Mikail Ozerler, the world’s runner up of 2017 who reached the final. Another Serbian Nemanja Majdov, 2017 World Champion, lost to Frazer Chamberlain (GBR) where Dutchman Noël van ‘t End won this pool and defeated Axel Clerget on the road. Read more

Dutch women defend European Games title

The Netherlands won three gold medals at the first European Games edition in 2015 in Baku. Marhinde Verkerk was the winner U78kg. The Dutch have always had a strong line-up in this class and since that period Guusje Steenhuis took over the lead in this division. The former World number one faced some injuries but seems back in time for a good campaign in the road to Tokyo with stepping stones in Minsk, Tokyo, Prague in 2020. Read more

Prize money for judo IJF Ranking leaders

The IJF have announced that it will award a prize money bonus for 2018 year-end leaders of the World Ranking List. The IJF will award a bonus prize money pot of $220,000 with the male and female judoka with the most ranking points for the calendar year each scooping $50,000 apiece. Read more
