Russian Pari Surakatova was good as cadet and junior where she won European bronze medals. In 2010 she was 5th at World Junior level. Her best performance was the Grand Prix final in Zagreb in 2015 U63kg. She won bronze in 2014 in Tbilisi and Tyumen. Silver at the African Open Casablanca in 2016. With Yewara Newa she won the Golden League in 2017 in Ankara.

Tina Trstenjak stars for Slovenia with gold in Hungary

Tina Trstenjak looks unstoppable as again she captured the gold medal, this time in Budapest's Grand Prix. This year she lost only one bout, but won 18 and beat the best. Also in Budapest where the World Bronze medallist defeated Tyumen Grand Slam bronze medallist Pari Surakatova (RUS) in the U63kg final in yet another brilliant showing which no doubt positions her as the favourite for World gold this summer. At the Grand Slam of Tyumen World number four Abe Kana of Japan emerged triumphant in Russia to the frustrations of her opponent, Sofia European Open bronze medallist Ekaterina Valkova of Russia and the home crowd. Abe registered a perfect record as she won all four of her contests by ippon including the final which was settled after just 22 seconds as a textbook uchi-mata earned ippon. Read more

Edwige Gwend grabs glory from World Champ Gerbi

Former European silver medallist Edwige GWEND (ITA) won her first Grand Prix gold medal at the expense of world champion Yarden GERBI (ISR) who was irresistible in the previous rounds. GWEND, 24 was confident in attack and opened the scoring with a yuko from a determined ouchi-gari and went back to the same technique to add a waza-ari. The 24-year-old raised her hands in the air to celebrate as fighting champion GERBI stayed on her back on the tatami knowing she didn’t do herself justice in the final. Read more
