Kim Sung-Min captured the gold medal at the Grand Slam in Paris in 2019. He won the Universiade in 2009 and in 2011 in Shenzhen in the open class. Kim won a bronze medal at the World Championships in 2011 in Paris. In 2015 Kim SungMin won the Grand Slam of Abu Dhabi. He won the Tokyo Grand Slam three times. In 2016 he won bronze at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf. In 2017 he took bronze at the Grand Prix in Hohhot. He captured bronze at the Grand Prix in Antalya in 2018.

Asian Games gold medallist Kim Sung-Min (KOR) conquered Olympic silver medallist Harasawa Hisayoshi (JPN) by ippon with an o-soto-gari to win gold in the last contest of the 2019 Paris Grand Slam. Kim has toiled of late and had been surpassed by a new generation of heavyweights but showed he can still mix it with the best and renewed his place among the sport’s top heavyweights. Read more

Korean Gwak Dong-Han defeats Mashu Baker at Asian Games

At the Asian Games in Jakarta Gwak Dong-Han defeated Olympic Champion Mashu Baker in the semi final by ippon and claimed the Asian Games title in the final against Gantulga Altanbagana (MGL). The 2015 World Champion from Korea won bronze in 2014 and gold in the team event. Read more

Kokoro Kageura concludes Japanese success in Paris

The last final of the weekend opposed Kageura Kokoro (JPN) and Kim Sungmin (KOR). In less than a minute both athletes were penalised with two shidos each and had no other choice than to attack, which they did but 1:52 were necessary for the Japanese to score a beautiful ko-uchi-gari for ippon. It is the first gold medal for Kageura in a Grand Slam and the fifth gold for Japan here in Paris. Read more

World number one Aleksandar Kukolj aiming for title prolongation in Tokyo

Korea is by far the most successful country winning the Grand Slam title in Tokyo for men. Korean men have captured 11 titles since the first Grand Slam in 2008. Kim SungMin was the most successful wining three editions. Wang Ki-Chun won twice. Still it’s not easy for foreigners to win in the home of judo. Only 16 foreign men won the Grand Slam on Tokyo. Last year Aleksandar Kukolj (SRB) and Kirill Denisov (RUS) were in form. Read more
