The final U48kg of the 2014 edition of the Judo Grand Prix in Tashkent linked Turkish Sumeyye Akkus to Charline Van Snick. The Belgian who needed to enter the golden score to secure her first victory of the season after a bronze medal in Zagreb last September. A further 52 seconds of added time was required following the regular four minutes before Van Snick scored a yuko for the victory as both judoka took an eternity to return to their feet after a lung-busting contest. Russia and France won two gold medals at the first day of the Judo Grand Prix in Samsun. It was the second edition in Turkey of this Grand Prix.
