8th Dan judoka Joop Gouweleeuw was born in 1940 and was European champion in 1966. He won European medals with the Dutch Team in the mid sixties. He competed at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo as heavyweight. With his new camera he made unique footage of the Anton Geesink victory as he was close to the tatami. Gouweleeuw won three Dutch titles in 1961, 1964 and 1966. He won European silver in 1965. He had his own club in Delft since 1965. He passed away in 2017.
