Belgian Roxane Taeymans won the European U23 title in 2013 in Samokov U70kg. In the seniors she won her first World Cups in 2015 in Santiago and Minsk. At national level she won national titles in each age division: U17, U20 and seniors twice. She won silver at the Grand Prix in Tunis in 2018. The uchi-mata technician is balancing full-time judo with her second Masters degree as the Tokyo 2020 hopeful is studying Management at KU Leuven, a research university in the Dutch-speaking town of Leuven

Belgian Roxane Taeymans times career highlight well

The gold medal in the category U70kg was for Belgium. Belgian Roxane Taeymans and Russian Alena Prokopenko qualified. It was Belgium who claimed the gold. Roxane Taeymans needed five minutes and 34 seconds without scoring before she convinced the referee by ippon. In the golden score she almost scored but made the difference on the ground with an immediate follow up by ude-garami and Prokopenko tapped immediately. Read more

On Thursday evening the European Championships U23 officially started off with the draw. The 11th edition of this championship proves again to be a success. With the startlist of so many quality judoka no one can argue on the quality in advance.
