Cuban judoka Idalys Ortiz became Olympic Champion in 2012 in London and won silver in 2016 in Rio. Ortiz had already won Olympic bronze in 2008 in Beijing. She was World Champion in 2013 and 2014. In 2015 she won World bronze in Astana. She won various Panam Championships and Games and 8 World Tour events.

World number one Asahina Sarah of Japan qualified for the final against world number two Larisa Ceric of Bosnia Herzegovina, who took the advantage over the Dutch Tessie Savelkouls to access the final. Four top women qualify for semi finals at World Open Championships

Legendary line-up for World Open Weight Championships in Marrakech

Cuban team preparing to get back in line with top judo countries

IJF awards 14 World leaders 50,000 USD each

The International Judo Federation has awarded all 14 judoka who ended 2016 as the world number ones with an extra $50,000 each in prize money.
