Sharafuddin Lutfillaev lauded after fourth Grand Prix win
Six-time Grand Slam medallist Sharafuddin Lutfillaev (UZB) defeated world number 38 Artem Lesiuk (UKR) to win Grand Prix gold on day one in Marrakech. First-time IJF finalist Lesiuk forced the contest into golden score and his Uzbek rival surged into action with a huge koshi-guruma for a waza-ari score to hand him his twelfth Grand Prix medal and fourth of the golden variety. Russia takes triple gold at opening day in Tel Aviv
Russian athletes claimed three gold medals on the opening day of action at the European Judo Championships in Tel Aviv. Irina Dolgova got the ball rolling for Russia in the women's U48 kilogram category with a waza-ari win over London 2012 bronze medallist Éva Csernoviczki of Hungary. Read more

European judo season for men opens in Sofia
At the European Open this weekend in Sofia The Canadian and French team have the best papers to take the titles. The Canadians sent a team with some of the top athletes. Three Canadians are seeded first such as the competitive category U81kg with Etienne Briand who’s ranked 13th in the World. Also Antoine Valois-Fortier is listed high and will be protected, but they may see each-other in the semi finals. Read more
Robert Mshvidobadze marks career highlight with surprising European title
The Russian lightweights are a story apart. This time it was Robert Mshvidobadze who took the European title for men U60kg. Without Olympic champion Beslan Mudranov the Russians still have enough alternatives. Still it was a remarkable performance as Mshvidobadze is not the most successful Russian to say the least, but 20 April became a special day for Mshvidobadze. Read more
