Masashi Ebinuma is triple World Champion in judo U66kg. He won the titles in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Ebinuma won bronze at the 2012 and 2016 Olympic Games. He won the Grand Slam in Paris in 2016 and the GP Dusseldorf in 2015, Grand Prix Abu Dhabi and Grand Slam in Tokyo. He took silver at the Grand Prix in Budapest and took a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Osaka in 2018. He took silver at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf in 2019. Soichi Hashimoto returns to glory to complete Masters hat-trick

Former world champion Hashimoto Soichi of Japan won the World Judo Masters for the third time as he returned to being Japan’s number two behind Olympic and world champion Ono Shohei (JPN). Hashimoto was awarded the victory after Zagreb Grand Prix winner Tohar Butbul (ISR) could not compete in the -73kg final due to injury. The Park 24 judoka topped the Masters podium as he did in 2016 and 2017 and will hang on to his slim chances of making the Olympics team with major selections still likely for him in 2020. Read more

Masters in Qingdao with promising Japanese team

Three-time world champion and double Olympic bronze medallist Ebinuma Masashi (JPN) defeated former world champion Hashimoto Soichi (JPN) in golden score to claim his third Grand Slam title. After the reigning Olympic and world champion Ono Shohei was ruled out with an index finger injury, and lost the opportunity to seal his selection by winning gold in Osaka, the onus was on Hashimoto going out and proving himself after being overlooked for the individual competition at the World Championships. Shohei Ono defeated Masashi Ebinuma in dream final

Olympic champion Ono Shohei won his fourth Grand Slam gold medal at the expense of his teammate, double Olympic bronze medallist and three-time world champion Ebinuma Masashi in a rematch of the Osaka Grand Slam final.
