Nae Udaka is World Champion 2014 in Chelyabinsk U57kg. Udaka won the Universiade in Bangkok (Student World Championships) in 2007. In 2015 she won bronze at the Grand Slam of Paris in 2015. She won silver at the Grand Prix in Budapest in in 2016 and silver at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2016. She won bronze at the Grand Prix in Düsseldorf and silver at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg. World silver medallist Yoshida Tsukasa (JPN) led an all-Japanese quartet onto the U57kg medal podium as Japan kept all four medals in judo’s founding country. Yoshida defeated six-time Grand Slam medallist Yamamoto Anzu (JPN) in the U57kg final in a battle attrition with both judoka having two shido penalties to their names going into golden score. 34-year old Miryam Roper qualifies for the final in Ekaterinburg

The first day of the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg delivered quite some surprises but an equal distribution of the final position among a number of strong judo nations. The Russian athletes showing good results, especially in the women’s categories where they seemed to get more grip to take some of the medals this year.
