Alexei Budolin is 2000 Olympic bronze medallist and double World medallist, finallist in 2001. He won the European title in 2001 in Paris. Was 1995 and 1996 European junior Champion. Brother of Dimitri Budolin. For years he was head coach of Estonia and since 2017 he is coach for Switzerland.

At the Olympic Games of 2000 France had to wait a long time for a gold, but at 19 September 2000 Severine Vandenhende finally gave France its first Olympic title in Sydney. Report of the European Championships 2001 in Paris Day 2

The second day of the European Championships featured four reigning Olympic Champions and a partisan French crowd that did its utmost to sway the referees at every possible turn. But at the end of the day, it was another Belgian who stole the show as Gella Vandecaveye equalled the feats of her compatriot the previous day. Vandecaveye claimed her seventh European title, her sixth in a row, matching the record of Ulla Werbrouck, although she still has a few more championships to contest before she reaches 13 medals.
