Swiss Open first of 12 European Cups this season

The first of twelve European Cups this weekend will kickoff in Uster, near Zürich. The Swiss Open Judo is held for the second time as European Cup but has a longer history where great athletes appeared. Three years ago Tadahiro Nomura made a small comeback in Uster. One of the winners in 2012 was double World Champion Majlinda Kelmendi. Olympic champion Tagir Khaibulaev won in 2008. Olympic bronze medallists Charline van Snick won the edition in 2009. Read more

Canadian women Ecaterina Guica and Stéfanie Tremblay booked a victory at the Oceania Open in Wollongong. The World Cup victory was worth the miles. Canada leads the medal table after day 1. Stefanie Tremblay defeated German Aussie Katharina Haecker U63kg. Tremblay won her third World Cup victory this season. Read more

Canada and Russia grab two gold in Port Louis

There haven’t been many occasions where team Canada picked up two gold medals at an Olympic qualifiying moment. Today in Port Louis in Madagascar that day was realized by Patrick Gagne and Arthur Margelidon. It’s not a bad year for the Canadians who won three World Cups in San Salvador in June. For Margelidon it was his third World Cup, each year one. The 22-year old judoka won the category U73kg in Madagascar. In the final he defeated Turkish Hasan Vanlioglu. Read more

Majlinda Kelmendi makes comeback with gold in Bratislava

Double world champion Majlinda Kelmendi of Kosova made her comeback this year at the European Cup in Bratislava. Kelmendi was absent at the recent World Championships, but one week later she started with her first official fights this year. The competition was obviously not as tough as in Astana where Misato Nakamura was crowned as successor of Majlinda. Read more
