France captures four gold medals at European Cup Belgrade

The French athletes have taken home four gold medals at the European Cup in Belgrade. The fifth edition was the eighth European Cup this season. Four more events will follow in the next few weeks. Many athletes used this event as preparation for the European U23 Championships and the youngsters for the World Junior Championships. For the more experienced judoka the forthcoming Grand Slams of Paris and Abu Dhabi need some match preparation in Belgrade. Read more


European Cup Belgrado start with strong field

This fifth jubilee edition of the European Cup in Belgrade gathered 277 athletes from 23 nations. The Serbian Judo Federation hosts the fifth jubilee edition with a field that is tougher than ever where many athletes will use this event as a bridge in their preparation for the European U23 Championships. For some countries it is seen as a qualification tournament for the European Championships which is held in November in Slovakia. Read more

Sally Conway shines in Glasgow at European Open

Home fighter Sally Conway led the way for the home crowd taking gold in the -70kg category at the European Open in Glasgow. Conway had reached the final in typically strong fashion holding Japan’s Haruka Yasumatsu after earlier taking a narrow win on shidos over Alena Eiglova of Czech Republic. The final saw her up against Jenifer Pitzanti and she comfortably beat her Italian opponent, throwing for waza-ari and picking up yuko on the ground to seal the win. 19 year-old British athlete Ebony Drysdale-Daley took fifth place as she picked up hansoku-make against Japanese athlete Haruka Yasumatsu in the bronze medal contest. French lead the dance at British Open in London

France topped the final medal table of the European Cup in London with a total of 19 medals, including four golds. Great Britain were second with The Netherlands third. Over 300 judoka were in action at K2, Crawley, with 29 countries represented in the two-day long event. Read more
