He won silver at the European Open in Tallinn in 2016. He is four time Dutch champion. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Prix Tbilisi in 2018.

London 2012 Olympic champion and Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medallist Lasha Shavdatuashvili of Georgia started as the top seed at the Grand Prix in Tbilisi and came through five testing contests to win his third Grand Prix title. Dutch team with Grol and Polling full of World medal potential

The Dutch team for the World Championships in Budapest includes a little surprise. Triple World Championships runner-up Henk Grol was not very sure how to proceed after the Olympic Games; most likely he would start +100kg. His last matchday was at 11 August 2016 when he couldn’t overcome Cyrille Maret. Now it appears that Grol will make his comeback in Budapest, fighting U100kg. At the Dutch Championships held in Almere for the first time in history, Sam van ‘t Westende won his fourth national title in his sixth consecutive final, and all U73kg. France and The Netherlands topped the medal table at the European Open in Glasgow. Both nations won two gold medals . Great Britain, Switzerland and Slovenia have one champion in Glasgow. The host nation captured 8 medals in total. Britain's Owen Livesey topped the podium in a strong U81kg category at the Glasgow European Judo Open. France topped the medal table with a total of five medals including two golds. Hosts Great Britain took eight medals with the home crowd enjoying the exciting judo on show at the Emirates Arena.
