Cyril Soyer of France won 11 World Cup medals U60kg. The French lightweight won bronze at the Tournoi de Paris in 2004 and 2006 and silver in 2001. He was French champion in 1999, 2001 and 2006. Soyer won the World Military Games in 1999. With France he became European team champion in 2004.

The final day of competition at the 2001 European Judo Championships took place in front of a disappointing crowd. The French seem to come out in force for the Tournoi de Paris and the chance to watch their heroes take on the very best from Japan, Korea and Cuba, but run-of-the-mill European competition doesn't capture their imagination in quite the same manner. And that despite four reigning Olympic champions fighting yesterday and another today in the form of Husein Ozkan, not to mention their own World champion Larbi Benboudaoud. Read more

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, this year's Tournoi de Paris 2001 kicked off in style. As well as the spectacular judo and the electric atmosphere from the partisan crowd that packed the Parc de Bercy stadium, the French did something rather special this year. Just before the medal ceremony, the stadium lights dimmed and the crowd were treated to a parade of champions, with all the French winners of the Tornois de Paris being brought onto the tatami.
