Japanese judoka Mao Arai became the junior world champion in 2023 in Odivelas. She captured the gold medal at the Grand Slam in Tokyo in 2023. She claimed a gold medal at the Junior European Cup in Malaga in 2022. In 2022 she became Junior World Champion in Guayaquil. She claimed a silver medal at the Belgian Open in Herstal in 2023. Clinched bronze at the Asian Championships in Hong Kong in 2024. Gold at 2024 Grand Slam Tokyo. Bronze at the 2025 Paris Grand Slam.
