Clarisse Agbegnenou rules for France at the expense of Bellard
European champion Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA) defeated Baku Grand Slam winner Anne-Laure Bellard (FRA) in the -63kg final. Agbegnenou, 21, who defeated her domestic rival in the European Championship final in April, was once again triumphant against 32-year-old Bellard, who had three shido penalties to her name after a minute for a false attack, passivity and going out of the area. Anne-Laure Bellard battles to Baku gold
Paris Grand Slam silver medallist Anne-Laure Bellard (FRA) defeated Samsun Grand Prix winner Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT) in the first final of the day. In a contest which pitted youth against experience, Bellard, 32, was all but out of the contest entering the final minute with three shido penalties against her and Unterwurzacher, 21, boasting an unblemished record. Both France and Georgia won the European team titles in Montpellier. The women's gold was the most cheered one of the day. Against the dangerous German team the French women advanced for gold and the Germans took the lead in the match. Read more

Clarisse Agbegnenou prolongs her Grand Slam title in Paris
World silver medallist Clarisse Agbegnenou produced a measured display against veteran Anne-Laure Bellard who was contesting the first Grand Slam final of her career. The last contest on day one saw Bellard push Agbegnenou the distance but the French number one retained her title after her compatriot received a shido for passivity with 90 seconds remaining which proved the difference. Bellard booked her place in the final on shido penalties against Sofia European Open winner Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia to her delight and a roar of approval from the Bercy faithful. Agbegnenou was in sensational form in the preliminaries and delivered a special moment in her semi-final as she lifted rival Anicka Van Emden with a ura-nage for ippon. Read more
