Ilias Iliadis became the youngest ever Olympic male Champion in 2004, aged 17. Ilias won 3 world titles in 2010, 2011 and 2014 and 6 world medals. Born in Georgia as Jarji Zviadauri, cousin of 2004 Olympic champion U90kg Zurab Zviadauri. He retired after the Olympic Games in 2016 as a legend. He is ambassador of judo for the IJF. Ilias Iliadis (GRE) was number 1 of the IJF World Ranking for seniors U90kg from 2011-2013. In November 2019 Iliadis became head coach of Uzbekistan.

Gwak Dong Han completes the triple in Jeju

Korean World champion Gwak Dong Han won his third consecutive Jeju Grand Prix as he beat former World Judo Masters silver medallist Axel Clerget (FRA) in the -90kg final. The Asian champion, 23, ruled in Jeju in 2013, 2014 and now 2015, as he opened the scoring with a yuko before adding a waza-ari to seal one more home triumph. Read more

New judo heroes are made at European Cadet Championships

This week the European Championships for Cadets will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria. This event is of a particular importance for many reasons. First of all, it is a qualifier for the World Cadet Judo Championships in Sarajevo in August. Secondly, the cadet age group is the first and most challenging step to the higher level, and many young judoka have proved to become a champion such as Arsen Galstyan, Ilias Iliadis, Elnur Mammadli and from the past Angelo Parisi. European Games show great judo matches U90kg

The third day of the European Games did gave the spectacular judo we were hoping for. The men’s U90kg category delivered fine judo with world class actors. In the end Varlam Liparteliani (GEO) and Kirill Denisov (RUS) were qualified for the finals. That’s a repetition of the 2013 European final. Read more
