Judoka Sofia Asvesta from Cyprus clinched a bronze medal at the European Cup U21 Sarajevo in 2019. She took bronze at the Junior European Championships in Porec in 2020. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Open in Zagreb in 2021. It was the first ever medal a World Cup level for a Cypriotic woman. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Cup in Dubrovnik in 2021. She took a gold medal at the Asian Open in Zouk Mikhael in Lebanon in 2022. She took gold at the 19th Games of the small states in Pembroke. She bagged a bronze medal at the European Open in Tallinn in 2023.
