Kathrin Unterwurzacher retires after 12 year top career

Austrian top athlete Kathrin Unterwurzacher retires from international judo. The 28-year two-time European Championships medalist and 2016 Olympian announced to quite her career as a sports soldier and competitive athlete. After 12 years in the Austrian national team she has to retire due to a damaged right knee. Unterwurzacher: "The pain is too severe. My right knee no longer allows top positions." Read more

More than ten years ago Toma Nikiforov took the EYOF title in Tampere, a good sign after his silver at the European cadets. The same year he captured Silver at U90kg in the first World Championships ever held for cadets. His category mainly dominated by young Eastern European athletes. This Belgian lowlander could mix it with the highlanders. His Bulgarian background standing him in good stead. His unorthodox style had Slavic influences, already his Ura Nage was spectacular. Colin Oates says farewell to top judo

Double European Championships medallist Colin Oates has announced his retirement. Oates who competed at the 2012 and 2012 Olympic Games. In Rio he lost his first contest, in London he finished seventh. One of his highlight was the victory at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014. Read more
