Who would have thought about an all Kazakhstan World Championships final. Not in the most wet dreams the average judo fan, not even JudoInsiders would have seriously thought about that. Yeldos Smetov and Rustam Ibrayev made that dream come true. A tremendous boost for the organization, for the tournament and World Judo with such success in a country that is known for its wealth in oild and uranium. Although the commodities have fallen, judo is rising and today it was the best possible export of sports wealth. Read more

Paula Pareto has become World Champion for women U48kg. After a silver medal in 2014 the World #2 on the IJF Rankinglist took revenge on Japan. Ami Kondo blocker her in 2014 to the world title, this time Haruna Asami couldn’t stand the pressure of the small Argentine judoka who steps into the footlight of Daniela Krukower who won the first world title for her country in 2003. Japanese Asami Haruna is back on track for a World medal. The double World Champion of 2010 and 2011 and silver medallist in 2013 is the semi final and will fight against Brazilian Nathalia Brigida of Brazil who is the left over Brazilian after Olympic Champion Sarah Menezes lost her first match against Belgian Bronze Olympian Charline Van Snick. The Belgian was defeated by Paula Pareto who ranked among the best four in advance of the final block. Read more

The first day of the World Championships delivered quite a few upsets already. In the semi finals no European athlete is lined-up. In the men’s U60kg category, seven out of eight athletes came from Asia, only Felipe Kitadai of Brazil was among the eight but in the semis only Asian judoka. The Kazach judoka spurred up the crowd with their good performances. Read more
