Annabelle Euranie stunts at 33 with Grand Slam title

A great stunt in Abu Dhabi by Annabelle Euranie of France taking the Grand Slam gold. A unique performance which put her with 33 years and 66 days in the top of oldest judoka to win a Grand Slam. Still the oldest is Ariel Zeevi who won the Grand Slam of Moscow in 2011 aged 34 years. Second is the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam, Sabrina Filzmoser, in 2014 she was 33 years and 11 months, and she’s was in action today. Read more

European Games bronze medallist Amiran Papinashvili of Georgia pipped Junior world silver medallist Tsendochir Tsogtbaatar (MGL) in the first men’s final in Abu Dhabi. Tsendochir, 19, who won four of his five contests a week ago at the Junior World Championships, fell behind to a waza-ari before pulling back a yuko by countering a trademark pick up attempt from the Georgian. This week the Grand Slam of Abu Dhabi will be held, just after the World Junior Championships and some of those athletes stayed for the Grand Slam. Junior world champion Gercsak Szabina of Hungary has remained in Abu Dhabi to continue her upward progression. “After the junior gold I want to take some results finally at U70kg at the senior level. I hope I can do it here in Abu Dhabi. I feel very good with myself and my form and I hope I can take a medal.” Read more

He was already the best performing European junior ever, but today Georgian starlet Beka Gviniashvili won the World title in Abu Dhabi which he lost last year and had already won in 2013. He waved at the crowd saying goodbye to an amazing junior time, what a great birthday gift for himself and Georgia. After two lost finals earlier in Abu Dhabi, now the gold was for the Georgian team.
