Mikita Sviryd is a popular guy. The Belarussian athlete has many friends all around the judo world and as a judoka he worked himself up from a successful junior, to runner-up at the European U23 Championships, even twice… until he started to win medals at senior level. At the European Open in Minsk he threw current World Champion Jorge Fonseca with his devastating weapon, he took silver at the Grand Prix in The Hague and all the time there was Peter Paltchik (ISR) to stop him. The Hague Grand Prix cancelled

The IJF have pulled back the license for the Grand Prix in The Hague due to expected financial losses for both contracted editions in 2019 and 2020. A severe loss for the Dutch Judo Association where in 2017 the city council of The Hague announced the top event in the World Tour for a period of four years. The Grand Prix was scheduled from 15-17 November. Read more

Peter Paltchik wins back-to-back IJF gold

Peter Paltchik of Israel took U100kg gold to extend his winning run to nine consecutive contests on the IJF World Judo Tour. Abu Dhabi Grand Slam winner Paltchik has excelled this year and moved closer to the leading judoka in the category with a blistering display on Sunday. World number 36 Sviryd claimed his first IJF medal despite going over after 89 seconds of golden score from a seoi-nage before both men shared a lengthy embrace. Read more
