Yuri Alvear returns as a coach for Bolivia
Yuri Alvear is amazing judoka from Colombia and without a doubt the best ever in her country. She is triple world champion in 2011, 2013 and 2014 and won bronze in 2015, 2017 and 2018. She took Olympic silver in 2016 in Rio and an Olympic bronze medal in 2012 in London and was 7th in Beijing. Alvear won many Pan American Championships and she won Grand Slams in Baku and Brasilia among 12 IJF World Tour medals. The IJF Media team spoke about her new challenge as a coach. Read more

Alice Schlesinger ends 15 years top judo career
Alice Schlesinger has announced her retirement from judo after a career that has seen her compete on the international stage for over 15 years. Born and raised in Herzliya, Israel, Alice competed for her country of birth until 2014, before switching to compete for Great Britain, the nationality of her mother. Read more

Four new World Ranking leaders after deduction of Masters
Four judoka became world ranking leader for the first time in their careers. Dutchman Michael Korrel benefit of the deduction of the points of last year’s Masters and passed Cyrille Maret at the World Ranking list U100kg. Korrel won the Grand Slam in Baku recently and stepped into the top ten in February this year. With his bronze in Düsseldorf and victory against former World number one Gasimov he joined the top three. Read more

Deguchi chooses Canada, aims for Tokyo Olympics
Christa Deguchi, 2014 World Junior Championship runner-up from Japan and 2013 bronze medallist, is going to fight for Canada. The 21-year old Deguchi will be aiming for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Read more

Tushishvili topples heavyweight powerhouses to triumph with ippon judo
Georgian Guram Tushishvili made light work of a high calibre heavyweight field as he collected his first IJF World Judo Tour medal in sensational fashion. The 22-year-old Junior European champion, who weighed in at 107kg, opposed Düsseldorf Grand Prix bronze medallist Bor Barna (HUN) in the final and made it four wins by ippon from four contests.
