Russian Leo Fogel earns first IJF Tour medal

Russian judoka Leo Fogel was one of the biggest winners at the Grand Prix of Ulaanbaatar as he won his first Grand Prix gold medal by defeating former Tashkent Grand Prix silver medallist Battsetseg Batgerel. As the shidos began to accumulate for both judoka because of their passivity, Fogel, stepped up his work rate and threw with a seoi-otoshi for a waza-ari as the contest reached its halfway point. Japanese youngster Ike Erina surprisingly defeated one of Mongolia’s strongest medal hopes for Rio 2016 in the U70kg final as Almaty Grand Prix silver medallist Tsend-Ayush Naranjargal of Mongolia succumb to Asian opposition. Highlight gold for Baldorj Mungunchimeg in Ulaanbaatar

Mongolian Baldorj Mungunchimeg won Grand Prix gold in Ulaanbaatar for the first time as she saw off teammate Bold Gankhaich. Bold, 21, and Baldorj, 22, are the future of the category for Mongolia and could compete over the next four years for the Tokyo 2020 slot at this weight. As teammates who train together on a daily basis, there was little to separate the judoka as a shido for passivity against Bold settled the scoreless contest. Read more
