Linda Bolder retires with pain in her heart

Israelian Dutch woman Linda Bolder announced her retirement. The 29-year old Bolder finished seventh at the Olympic Games in Rio. She won European titles in three different age categories at European Championships. She won European gold as cadet , junior and U23 and as senior she was runner up in 2013 behind Kim Polling. She won the Grand Slams of Paris & Tokyo but switched to Israel in 2015 and continued to win for gold for Israel. On her Facebook she explained her thoughts. Read more

Luxury dilemmas for Russia and Brazil in the World Ranking

Conclusion from the Grand Prix in Havana is position improvements in the latest IJF World Ranking for the top athletes of Russia, Brazil and Hungary and some minor changes for some of the finalists. The big winner was Havana gold medallist Artem Bloshenko of the Ukraine who’s now at 16 from 22, an almost certain qualification. In that category Karl-Richard Frey changed position with Cyrille Maret after his final in Havana. Elmar Gasimov is still leading here followed by Krpalek. Read more

It was a good weekend for the Russian men, three gold medals U66kg, U81kg and Renat Saidov won the gold +100kg. Not a bad start for the Russian team that has to solve a few luxury problems, but some categories are clear, Saidov has no serious international competition in his country and this gold in Havana is another milestone that he will be acting in Rio de Janeiro in August. The public at the Grand Prix of Havana came in numbers to see ‘its’ Olympic Champion, Idalys Ortiz, in action throughout the day. And the thousands of spectators were not disappointed as the always smiling and relaxed Ortiz managed to step into the final without really being endangered by her successive opponents.
