Judo in Bulgaria in on the way back with good results by young judoka Denislav Ivanov who won the world title in 2015. Betina Temelkova and Tsvetelina Tsvetanova won bronze medals at World Cadet Championships. Best judoka of Bulgaria is Ivaylo Ivanov who finished 7th at the Olympic Games in Rio. Georgi Georgiev won Olympic bronze in 2004. Dimitar Zapryanov and Ilyan Nedkov won Olympic medals in Moscow 1980. Georghi Petrov was a good judoka in the eighties winning World medals. The most important event is the Judo European Open in Sofia. The 2018 Junior European Championships were held in Sofia.
