European Champion Aleksandar Kukolj is still the world number one of the world ranking. His compatriot Nemanja Majdov took the world title and ranked number two. The current Serbian domination is unique for this relatively modest judo country, but now all is possible. When small judo federation Israel last year won two Olympic medals, the sport got a tremendous boost and Israel organizes the next European Championships. Colin Oates says farewell to top judo

French juniors take European team title for women

The French Junior women’s team have captured the European title in Maribor. The French were too strong for the talented team of The Netherlands. The Dutch had won three individual European titles, two of them relevant for the team weight categories that starts with U52kg. Slovenia cheers for one single European title for Klara Apotekar

Four countries each captured three gold medals this weekend at the Junior European Championships in Maribor. Russia, however, was the best with nine medals in total.
