Dex Elmont takes his most precious career title in Montpellier

Dex Elmont won the European title in Montpellier, an achievement his world champion brother hadn't done so far. The pride of the two was undescribable. The Dutchman had to wait a long time and won three consecutive European medals from 2006-2008 but this time he won the final. The 30-year-old Elmont defeated World silver medallist Ugo Legrand of France by a surprise seoi for Legrand's own crowd.

Miklos Ungvari of Hungary was defeated in the semi-final. In a field of 33 judoka Elmont bested Rustam Orujov in the quarter final and Kunter Rothberg and Desmidubsky in his first fights.

Legrand beat defending champion Rok Draksic in the semi-final by ippon and coming man Nugzari Tatalashvili of georgia in the quarter.

Draksic and Ungvari took the bronze medals as they defeated Rustam Orujov and Tatalashvili in theitr last bout.
