Ami Kondo captured the gold in the women’s U48kg class. In Guadalajara the Japanese 2014 World Champion defeated Sarah Menezes of Brazil by oseikomi within one and a half minute. Kondo beat another Brazilian at her start today in Mexico when she beat Natahlai Brigida.

Last year in Rabat (MOR) Kondo lost early and finished 9th. The Japanese champion and winner of the Grand Slam in Tokyo wasn’t very successful internationally this year until now. Kondo defeated Julia Figueroa by two Yukos in her second bout. In the semi final Maryna Cherniak of the Ukraine was her opponent. Kondo won by ippon in just more than a minute, but Cherniak was one of the good performing surprises today. Cherniak won the bronze when she outclassed Jeong Bo-Kyeong after being behind. Spanish Figueroa won a fantastic bronze medal as well after her contest against Dilara Lokmanhekim who took the fifth place for the third time in a row. The third Spanish woman to win a medal at the Masters.

Kondo brought the Masters title U48kg back to Japan where Haruna Asami won the Masters twice in 2010 and 2011, followed by Tomoko Fukumi  in 2012 in the Olympic year, it wasn’ t a guarantee for gold in London. Hiromi Endo won gold in 2013, but Munkhbat captured it last year in Rabat.
