Habib Sissoko new African Judo Union President

At the Congress of the African Judo Union (AJU), Habib Sissoko was elected as President for the next period starting after the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. He takes over the position of Lassana Palenfo gave up his position after being President over the past years. Sissoka was the only candidate.

The congress was attended by all presidents of the African Union as well as distinguished guests such as IJF General Secretary Jean-Luc Rouge who wished the Union success in its congress. He was co-leading the elections and gave explanations about procedures. Rouge named Lassana Palenfo as a legend during his period as President.

Palenfo addressed in his speech the great help and support of the French Judo Federation over the past decennia for the development in management of organizing  events and support in administration. “We have benefit for this for years. Although it’s not easy for African nations to travel to the events from our own pockets. But under the mandate of Olympic Games, everyone should participate, including for the Olympic Games.”

New President Habib Sissoko thanked the board, President Palenfo and the congress and accepted the heavy task as President. “Mr Palenfo vision, support and friendship was essential for the development of the African Judo Union. You deserve all gratitude and you inspired us with your contributions. We also thank IJF President Marius Vizer for all support we received from the IJF. We have to underline the relations with our unions and our governments who fund us. We can use their experience for our objectives. We will invest our efforts to pay back and to promote judo in our continental and internationally.”

Thierry Siteny was elected as the Charmain of the AJU, he is also President of the Madagacar Judo Federation and Madagascar NOC. 

The two Vice President elected are; Skander Hachicha of Tunisia. Former African Champion U90kg. Hachicha is currently President of the Tunisian Judo Federation and as host responsible for the organization of the African Championships 2016 in Tunis and Mohamed Meridja of Algeria who is also currently the Coach and Education Director of the International Judo Federation.

The African Championships will take place from Friday until Sunday and important points can be gained for the Olympic Qualification.
