Guadalajara is the centre of World Judo this weekend

The annual World Judo Masters will be held this weekend in Mexico, in Guadalajara, 'The Pearl of the West' and Mexico’s second largest city. The city held events during the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games, the football World Cup’s at World Cup Mexico 1968 and 1986 and the hosted the multi-sport Pan American Games in 2011. In Guadalajara the world’s elite judoka as the top 16 ranked judoka in each category are automatically invited to battle it out at the Lopez Mateo Sports Centre. Read more

Big battle among lightweights at Masters in Guadalajara

The competition at the IJF Masters in Guadalajara will be most severe in the light weight categories. In the category for women U48kg eight of the 10 judoka from the IJF World Ranking will be fighting in Mexico this week. Only Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh (KAZ) and Irina Dolgova (RUS) fail in the field. Urantsetseg Munkhbat is ranked first in the top field which can give an insight in the shape of the athletes. Read more

The U81kg is one of the most competitive weight categories in the world. At the IJF Masters in Guadalajara Canadian Antoine Valois-Fortier is the highest seeded athlete. Valois-Fortier is the captain of the Canadian team having won a bronze medal at the London Olympic Games in 2012. Read more
