IJF continuous support for Russian judokas competing in Rio

Following the recommendations and guidelines set forth by the IOC and WADA, IJF continues to support the participation of all Russian athletes qualified for the Rio Olympic Games. Within the framework of the IJF anti-doping rules and testing scheme, these athletes, like all athletes participating in the World Judo Tour circuit, were tested a number of times, outside Russia as well, during international competitions or through out-of-competition tests. Shohei Ono of Japan is the absolute favourite for the Olympic title. But nothing as like it seems at Olympic level. Ono threw Riner at a training camp, but to throw his opponents in Rio may be tougher. His division will take place at 8 August. Russia won a second gold medal in 2012 by Mansur Isaev who didn’t make the qualification this time. So it’s about time that Ono takes the credits of his reputation. Read more

Teddy Riner flag bearer for France at the Olympic Games

Judo's eight-time world champion Teddy Riner has been officially named on Sunday to bear the French delegation's flag at the opening ceremony of next month's Rio Olympic Games. Duo Olympic gold medals winner of fencing Laura Flessel-Colovic, who was France's flag bearer four years ago in London, symbolically presented the tricolor to Riner on the podium of Tour de France at Champs-Elysees.
